Differences Between Sore & Strep Throat

Strep throat is generally more severe and persistent than a typical sore throat. Unlike a sore throat caused by colds and allergies, strep throat is usually accompanied by other symptoms like headaches, nausea, and fever.

Unlike most sore throats, a strep throat will not clear up on its own. In order to treat strep throat, you will need a prescription for antibiotics from a doctor. The antibiotic treatment for strep throat is very effective and will usually clear up symptoms within 48 hours so long as you take them as prescribed. Be sure to continue taking your prescription for the full time period your doctor recommends. Even if symptoms have ceased, it does not necessarily mean that the infection has been completely wiped out yet.
